Why is it so hard to just accept people for who they are?
This girl is a straight A student, this day in age that's almost a rarity. She damn well deserves to wear that tuxedo if it makes her feel good.

idiots.

She looks the part. Might as well let her. No one will know the difference.

This is seriously ridiculous. Where is the harm in wearing a tux?

In my opinion, it's about time they did away with the drape anyway. Yeah, once upon a time, off the shoulder black dresses were popular formal attire for women, but it's the 21st century. There's no sense looking like you're wearing a velvet prom gown from the 80's in your senior portrait, regardless of how you identify. And in my opinion, it's way more jarring to see a girl who's never worn a dress in her life done up in some outdated formal gown than it is to see her in a tux.

I actually had a mom last year who threw a fit when she found out her son wouldn't get to wear the drape in his senior pic. She wanted him to match his sister and for whatever reason could not understand why it'd look ridiculous to put the star quarterback in a drape for his yearbook. I just kept saying, "But ma'am...it's supposed to look like a dress. I don't think your son would like to wear a dress for his senior picture," and she just kept insisting that EVERYONE wore drapes.

I had to google drapes to see what they were. Classy, but I would rather have had straps for my grad photo.

It's a pretty decent picture...I just want to know what is going on with her hair. It looks like she's being hit with a fan from her right side...blowing all her hair in one direction.

If cross dressing is against the rules, all the girls will have to go back to wearing dresses or skirts.

i don't understand the controversy over men's clothes and women's clothes. a long time ago an arbitrary decision was made that men had to dress one way and women another, and in 2009 we are still letting bizarre and pointless prejudices dictate the way we dress. who cares? its much more common for women to wear pants and suits these days than years ago, yet this school district seems to be in the dark ages.

Back when I was a senior in high school, I knew plenty of girls who wore the tuxedo for at least some of their pictures. I didn't, because I thought I would look awful in one, but some of their pics were pretty cute. The girls did all have to wear the drape in our "official" yearbook pictures, but we were allowed to submit others to be included, and some were the female tuxedo pictures. It wasn't a big deal back then, and I don't see why it should be a big deal now.

I guess I'm a bit behind the learning curve here- I'd never heard of or seen a "drape", and we didn't do senior photos at our school. You hired your own photographer and did them on your own time, wearing whatever the hell you wanted.

If my choice had been a drape or a tux, I would have gone with the tux. It would have looked way more out of place to see me in some off-the-shoulder gown looking thing.

This is stupid. Why would school officials even bother with addressing this issue. Don't they have bigger things to worry about such as EDUCATING?

I wore a tux and took another lady to prom when i was a senior.

And if that flew in the backwater bible belt then what the hell is the problem here?

I graduated high school in 1979, and wore a simliar outfit, sans the tie. I didn't wear dresses or skirts (still don't) and there was no problem with what I wore.

Why should there be a problem when you pay for your own pictures, and you pay for your own yearbook?

She should be able to wear pretty much anything she wants. She looks perfectly respectable in her outfit.

I agree, but the face looks a lot like Michael Cera, of Arrested Development and Superbad fame.
