Obviously children will find it far too violent, distressing and horrific that Humpty Dumpty should not be put back together again.

In another, Miss Muffet makes friends with the spider. picked by tigertony 1 month ago

Lolwut?

O_O

This sort of 'violence' hadn't made a dent on the minds of millions of generations, otherwise I'd see overworked psychiatrists committing suicide from overload of people thinking Humpty Dumpty was too violent...

Seriously?

Yikes, it's crap like this that led my daughter to wake me up at 5 am to help the "poor spider" locked outside her window in the cold.

I was more concerned with the... alone time... that had been interrupted for my partner and I than the fate of the spider. I'm heartless that way.

I hope they change them all!

Such horrid tales of brutal violence. Look at Mary Had a Little Lamb. Sure it's a fine fairy tale because they were wise enough to leave off the part where Mary comes back to school the next day armed to the teeth and blasts the place to bits.

Not so lucky for some of the other fairy tales.

I say it's about time, if we hadn't been subjected to this debauchery when we were young we wouldn't be such sociopaths today!

Oh please. Cry me a river. Humpty Dumpty made my breakfast, the fat bastard.

He was tasty. I ate him along with bacon made from The Three Little Pigs, and for dessert, I had The Gingerbread Man.

So does this mean Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and pretty much every other fairy tale princess is going to manage to solve her problems herself rather than relying on a man to come along?

But surely, teaching children that girls are helpless, and that their life can't start without a man around is more damaging than learning you can get hurt when you take unnecessary risks?

LfriggingOL at these fairy tales and nursery rhymes being too graphic for kids. They should try reading the originals.

Red Riding Hood originally stripped for the wolf to distract him, crows pecked out Cinderella's stepsisters' eyes and the apple was dislodged from Snow White's throat when Prince Charming got a little freaky with her unconsenting corpse.

what kind of creative reasons would make them change nursery rhymes that have been the way they are for such a long time? i call shenanigans. why not just write new ones? better still, make changes that add to the nursery rhymes and complement them. its not like most people care enough about humpty dumpty as a character to give a damn whether he is put together again or made happy? dude deserved what he got for chillin on the wall. also, who makes friends with a spider?

I had a copy of the original Grimm's Fairy Tales as a child. I'll never forget my first reading of Cinderella, which includes both the bit about the eyes AND a bit about the stepsisters cutting off either their toes or heels to fit into the shoes and getting caught when the glass slipper turned red with their blood. Creepy.

Not millions of generations.... tens of generations, and millions of children. But your point still stands. :)

I hate frivolous revisionism, like this. A sanitized culture we need not. Stuff like this is unnecessary, brings children down to yet a new intellectual low, and kills the things we all have enjoyed in the past.

I'm literally weeping for pretty much everyone who commented in this thread.

It's rare that I say this, but you people need to turn of the internet for a couple of days, reset your ability to assess the situation.
