Community members received permission to use the land as a garden site.  For many years, this plot of city owned land was a community farm.  Families without access to large supermarkets were able to grow their own food, including trees and plants used in cultural cooking.<br/><br/>Soon, a developer contacted the city and arranged to buy the land.  Actually, he was the original owner that the land was purchased from under eminent domain, and the city actually sold the land back to this shyster.<br/><br/>The farms were cleared out after a protracted struggle.
