This is going on in LA as well!

A plot of land in the downtown area was taken over by the city, and then left vacant. Community members received permission to use the land as a garden site. For many years, this plot of city owned land was a community farm. Families without access to large supermarkets were able to grow their own food, including trees and plants used in cultural cooking.

Soon, a developer contacted the city and arranged to buy the land. Actually, he was the original owner that the land was purchased from under eminent domain, and the city actually sold the land back to this shyster.

The farms were cleared out after a protracted struggle. I believe the land is STILL vacant...

I know this has happened in Florida.

What really sucks is they only give something like 75% of fair market value, as is.

Then they turn around and sell it to the developer at a value commensurate with the worth it will have when it is newly developed.
