Seems to me to represent a high level of hypocrisy if viewed as a "finger on the Pulse of America" kind of thing.

Viewed as one man's opinion it comes across as the opinion of one man who doesn't realise quite how much America (and by extension the West - I'm not pointing fingers here) is reliant on China, and vice versa.
