When Bush Spoke To Children Nuttiness Existed Then As Well
When Bush Spoke To Children Nuttiness Existed Then As Well
The paranoia over Obama's speech was insane and a sad reflection on America. When Bush Sr spoke to school children it resulted in a congressional investigation which shows that the more things change the more they stay the same. picked by 2manyusernames 3 months ago

I am appalled that so many schools in our area are not showing it at all.

Talk of brainwashing our children in an 18 min speech? Come on, where is the respect for the president? And, many other presidents have addressed our youth as well!!

I think the Prez DOES need to encourage our youth to do well, they are our future.

This in some ways goes to show that even though as a country we are able to elect a black president, as a country, the majority are still racist...

But didn't want to be thought of uncool so Obama got elected anyways... now the true colors of the nation show...

I don't think the anti-obama crowd voted for him in the first place... It isn't as tho other people watch you vote.

I agree that the opposition was silly both times but there are key differences between then and now though. Back then the protests came after the speech and were almost entirely by politicians simply being political. This time the protests were before the speech was ever heard and mostly by parents refusing to let their children attend school while screaming about indoctrination and the evils of Obama. So some things may still be the same but things have changed, and changed a lot.

Guys, the issue wasn't about Obama addressing school kids, it was about the DOE stuff originally attached to it:

"The president urged students to stay in school, work hard and do great things. He preached about the importance of overcoming failure and how success only comes with practice and preparation.

So, what was the big deal?

The controversy wasn't so much the content of the president's speech, as it was the educational follow-up directive originally mandated by US Education Secretary Arne Duncan. After the president's speech was first announced, Duncan ordered school districts across America to implement a lesson plan to complement the president's message. Some parents, teachers and school administrators felt the lesson plan, complete with a list of questions for teachers to ask, had the feel of indoctrination."

Rediculous. Couldn't be anything to do with Obama's policies. Nope. He's black and that's why people disagree with him. Unreal. How can the majority elect a black president and at the same time the majority be racist? Oh... wait .. I see because people voted for him BECAUSE he was BLACK. I guess that is also racist. You're right. Sorry.

Look, don't get me wrong... Oh too late, you already did...

No matter what, people still chose to with-hold their children from school. Not because of his politics or his speech, because I read the speech there was nothing political about it...

There are people out there who are indeed not happy that he is the president and as such, no matter how dumb they are, they will use their ignorance to make sure that they children remain as they are, ignorant...

My first thought at seeing that parents will not be sending their children to school because the President was speaking because it would be a 'Brainwashing Session' was:

Oh Wow... that is ignorant... but I wouldn't expect anything less from people who are afraid of change, afraid of different things

And guess what? Being black is different and so is being Hispanic, being Asian, being Jewish, being Muslin...

These people don't see him as the President of the US, these people don't even see him as a human being... they see him as a black man, who (according to them) raised unfairly to power and now wants to brainwash their children and make health care affordable for the poor...

To hate because of differences is a very primal instinct... Don't doubt for a second that is not what is going on deep in their mind...

Sorry you continue to see everything through your race goggles. When a black folks disagreed with Bush's policies were they being also racist? No right? White is a race. White is also different from black, asian, jew, and muslim.
When black folks turned out in droves to vote for Obama simply because he was a black man.... that was not racist? But if white folks turn out in droves to vote for a white man because he's white, he's racist?

You are making very unfair and bias remarks about "white" people or any other race in my opinion. So....what of the black people that disagree with Obama? You automatically assume that ALL black people agree with Obama because he is LIKE them... which is racist in my opinion....

A few sites where black people that disagree with Obama.

BTW. I didn't dv you for your opinion.

Sorry about going off. I just get a little upset about being called racist for not agreeing with Obama's every whim.

I am not calling you a racist and you are right... white is a race, it is a color of skin...

His speech contained nothing more than encouraging thoughts for the future generation to get to work, do well in school and forge ahead and be successful...

That is something that my parents told me time and time again and I don't see how it can be called 'brainwashing' when it comes from the President...

You don't need to prove to me that there are black people that hate Obama. I know that well, as well as I am Hispanic and I hate Chavez Politics, no matter how good he is for the poor...

Hate is a powerful thing... it comes in many forms and it can be disguised as anything...

I know that you disagree with Obama because of his politics and not because he is Black... You, along with all of us, are a cut above the millions of Americans who can't even get past that fact. Some are even hung up on the fallacy that he wasn't born in the US...

I didn't bring up the issue of race to stir controversy among my plimates... but to point out the simple fact that there are people out there that don't agree with him because he is Black...

Pure. Simple...
