To save money and manpower, the Federal Bureau of Prisons has a unique way of transferring low risk inmates. They buy them a one-way bus ticket on Greyhound and send them unescorted to their destination. Since April 2006 they have transferred almost 90,000 prisoners this way.
Surprisingly, most inmates do make it to their destination.
